When John and I started
looking for a house we had a very short list of requirements. I grew
up in the Chicago suburbs, so I really wanted to have a big piece of land
to play on. I figured if I was going to be living in Central New
York (an area I consider 'rural'), I might as well go all the way, so I
wanted some distance between our home and neighbors-that requires land.
John wanted to live near the water. It didn't matter what kind of
water. Just water. Something he could cast a pole into.
I wanted my own office and I wanted John to have his own space as well,
so-a three bedroom was a must.
We ended up with a ranch house
on 10 acres. You can almost consider it a split level because it
sits on a hill and has a walk in basement. We each have our own
office. A bath, den, living room, kitchen and dining area make up
the rest of the house.
The land was completely
untamed. The previous owners had mowed only a small plot of land
around the house and left everything else untouched. There wasn't
even a decent path to the creek that runs cater corner in the 'back 40'.
The creek is what sold me.
John's only requirement....to be near water. You can't get much
closer then your own backyard. Unfortunately, the real estate agent
failed to tell me it was a seasonal creek. But that's okay. He
can still fish, he just won't catch anything. (Nothing with gills
anyway).
This little area of Deebz.com
will take you on a tour of the house, inside and out, as we do our best to
turn it into our home. Need a preview? The tree line in
the picture below marks the location of our seasonal creek.
