Hollyhocks |
The
East side of the house faces the street, but the evergreens don't really
allow for a good view of this side of the house. This is a
very shady spot, and cultivating it is not a high priority on our 'gee I'd
really like to do this' list.
When it's in bloom, the lilac
bush on the south side brings some color around the corner. But the
real attraction on this side are the Hollyhocks that have been reseeding
themselves successfully ever since we moved in. Each year they are
more splendid then the last. Hollyhocks attract more bees then
birds, but they're so pretty against the white of the house, it's worth
the inconvenience of the little buzzers. Amid the Hollyhocks
are a few wild flowers, cats (of course), and last but not least,
the electric meter. Ours was still running during the great blackout
in the summer of 2003. Was yours?
